On the Construction of Low Cost Multicast Trees with Bandwidth Reservation

چکیده
This report presents routing algorithms for many-to-many multicast connections with band-width requirements. The objective is to compute a connectivity structure among multicast members of low cost, taking into account their bandwidth requirements. We rst study the complexity of routing multicast connections with bandwidth reservation. Based on derived impossibility results , we propose a cluster strategy to connect multicast members, called Bandwidth Constrained Steiner Tree (BCST) strategy. We show that BCST strategy is the best polynomial time algorithm for such routing problems, in the sense of worst case performance. We propose two BCST algorithms, and claim hard bounds on cost and bandwidth overload. We study the proposed algorithms' performance on randomly generated multicast routing problems, and compare them against two well known routing strategies for multicast connection: Shortest Path Tree (SPT), where a SPT is built per multicast source, taking into account bandwidth requirements; and Minimum Spanning Tree (MST), where a single Steiner Tree is built to provide connectivity among multicast members, regardless of their bandwidth requirements. Our simulation experiments show that BCST algorithms strike a balance between blocking probability and tree cost, when compared against both SPT and MST algorithms.

A Delay-Constrained Protocol for Shared Multicast Tree Construction
In this paper we present a multicast protocol for building and maintaining Delay-Constrained Multi-cast Shared Trees (DCMST). Our protocol is based on the search of available Delay-Constrained multi-path to graft a new receiver to the shared tree. The new receiver chooses the most promising route regarding to its available bandwidth. This improvesthe load balancing on the network and we ooer be...
متن کاملOn the Maintenance of Low Cost Multicast Trees with Bandwidth Reservation
Emerging multimedia network technologies are bringing new challenges to protocols design, due to new QoS requirements. These requirements, when combined with traditional network functions, such as routing, render the design of such protocols more complex than ever before. Resource reservation is one of the novel features brought into the picture by multimedia applications. Another is the manyto...
متن کاملOn Finding Feasible Solutions to the Group Multicast Routing Problem
Group multicast routing problem (GMRP) is a generalization of multicasting whereby every member of the group is allowed to multicast messages to other members from the same group. The routing problem in this case involves the construction of a set of low cost multicast trees with bandwidth requirements for all the group members in the network. The traditional solutions only care for the low cos...
متن کاملA Novel Multicast Tree Construction Algorithm for Multi-Radio Multi-Channel Wireless Mesh Networks
Many appealing multicast services such as on-demand TV, teleconference, online games and etc. can benefit from high available bandwidth in multi-radio multi-channel wireless mesh networks. When multiple simultaneous transmissions use a similar channel to transmit data packets, network performance degrades to a large extant. Designing a good multicast tree to route data packets could enhance the...
متن کاملAlgorithms for delay-constrained low-cost multicast tree construction
With the proliferation of multimedia group applications, the construction of multicast trees satisfying Quality of Service (QoS) requirements is becoming a problem of prime importance. Multicast groups are usually classiied as sparse or pervasive groups depending on the physical distribution of group members. They are also classiied based on the temporal characteristics of group membership into...
